No! "Sing it in the valleys" will not do as a substitute for the Te Deum.
After that last post, I realised that this blog has far too few photos of our beloved Holy Father. So I took myself over to the incredible Papa Ratzinger Forum and found this one of the Pope at Vespers and Benediction earlier this evening!!! Thanks to the unparalleled Paparatzifan. It seems that the Holy Father managed to keep the silly vestment brigade at bay today.

I have another caption for you:
"You want me to finish off with the prayer of the what???"
Or how about:
"You do realise what happened to the last person who offered to help me find my enneagram, don't you?"
I saw this vespers this afternoon! It was on EWTN. Perfect programming for today.

- especially if you want the Indulgence! ;-)
Happy New Year!
yes, it is good to see him in some fine vestments.
You're right Father. His Holiness has worn some really ghastly vestments in the recent past. The little flames on the vestment His Holiness wore for Pentecost comes to mind.
Does the Holy Father have no say on what vestments he puts on or does he just accepts what Abp. Marini puts before him?
As these Pontifical Liturgies are broadcast internationally and serve as a model of the Mass, the vestments the Pope wears are important in setting a good example. A case in point is the vestments for the Mass in the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Istanbul. After the glorious Orthodox vestments, the plain red was a little anti-climactic.
Any thoughts Father?
The Vatican is completely hierarchical and the Pope is at the top of this hierarchy. What he says, goes. My guess is (and that is all it is) that Marini etc. get to choose the vestments by default (Pentecost flames and so on) but that the Holy Father has given some indication that the policy has to change.
The link to the "Papa Ratzinger Forum" appears to be faulty. It currently points to freeforumzone.leonardo.it
Heavens above! I did some pretty sloppy linking yesterday. Thanks, Vernon, for pointing these out. I have now fixed that one too. God bless you.
