Father could you give me an opinion on a problem with the act of contrition all of my students have been taught at primary school to say I will try not to sin again to me this invalidates the firm purpose of amendment I had a complaint from a parent who teaches this in a feeder primary school that I was the one who was confusing the boys also if the sacrament is called forgiveness doesnt that imply that the priest must give absolution? Regards

I'm sorry. I'm an American. Why is that funny?

That's a perfectly fair question and I'm afraid I am totally at a loss as to how to answer. Sorry.

I have a prayer card printed for the Octave of Christian Unity 1962 by the Catholic Truth Society. These are the daily intentions approved by the Bishops of England and Wales:
18 Jan. Unity of all Christians and the Peace of the World
19 Jan. Separated Eastern Christians
20 Jan. Separated English Christians
21 Jan. Separated Christians in Europe
22 Jan. Separated Christians in America
23 Jan. The Return of Lapsed Catholics
24 Jan. Jews and Mohamedans
25 Jan. The Conversion of the Heathen

Somehow I doubt we'd see a prayer card like that in the CTS shops nowadays
