Milestone coming up

Today, the stats show that the number of visitors to this blog have tipped over 99,000. (The "hits" figure is over 180,000.) Barring disasters, the 100,000 landmark will be reached sometime on Sunday.

One commenter suggested that I should offer a prize of a crate of lager for the 100,000th visitor. Now that's could be a problem if the visitor in question happened to be from China, Newfoundland or Adelaide (among the visitors today.)

So I hope that you will accept in grateful thanks for your interest that I will offer my Mass at Wonersh on Monday for the intentions of all visitors to this blog, asking God to bless you and your loved ones. Thank you for your support.

Father Tim,

You've done a FANTASTIC job with the blog, so I am not surprised at the number of hits. Keep it up!

I live across the pond in New Hampshire; do I qualify for the crate of lager? I promise to share it with my mates. Cheers!

I'll just have to keep visiting in order to get that beer. After all, I could probably just pop 'round and pick it up.

The value of Blogs etc. really hit me last thurdsay night. For the first time in ages I watched news at 10.30 on ITV. They were leading on some meeting or other Blair had held. It then hit me that until very recently the only news we could access from TV and radio was effectively the "Chronicles and Opinions of the Secular Great and Good" Watching it felt like going back to a dull world I had moved on from.

The thing is when you read Blogs like this you are imbibing catholic culture and not secular culture. This is incredibly important as it means that, here in the UK, perhaps for the first time since the reformation, you can casually and daily access catholic culture. In my case the process has happened gradually but now I get (and sometimes make) 99% of my news from individuals on the internet and only 1% from the commercial, biased, secular media outlets that utterly dominated until a couple of years ago. If you encounter catholic culture daily then its that much easier to sustain your faith.

Deo Gratius.

Paul I agree with you wholeheartedly. This is exactly my experience. Pessimistically, I wonder how long it will be before the forces of darkness realise the power of the blog and try to attack it. But the internet is not easy to control...

Congratulations Father! Is the term "hits" which is used so much referring to 'Page views'? I'm a bit confused...

Fr Tim Finigan said...

Site meter, which many bloggers use, gives you figures for "visitors" and "page views". The average page views per visit is about 1.8, which probably reflects different visiting "styles": most people just visit the main page but some click various pages in the archive or recent posts.

So the more reliable measure really is visitors. However, if you have some reason for stating your blog's popularity publicly outside the blogosphere, it is better to use "page views" which is a larger figure and corresponds to the "hits" measure which people generally talk about.

Thats fantastic news. I enjoy reading your blog as I find it very informative and it has given me a greater understanding of the catholic faith on some of the things that you have posted on your blog.

Keep up the good work Father, you are doing an excellent job.

Congratulations, Father, just goes to show how effective is your witness in the cyber-world.

And thank you for the Mass...I echo the poster above who commented it is a wonderful sentiment.

One thing that strikes me as a fairly regular reader of your blog; the universality of the Church. Clearly you speak of things very specific to your own country, but more imporantly, we see that what is specific to you is not isolated to one country, city, or parish.

So it follows, then, when you speak, although your main audience is clearly those more local to you, you still speak to all of us seeking an authoritative Catholic perspective.

So thank you, and keep it up! May you soon see 200,000!

God bless!

Fr Tim,

My mental health has improved no end, from reading the informative articles & looking at the pictures. It has inspired me & given me more enthusiasm for our wonderful Faith. It is especially good for people who don't get chance to meet many commited Catholics ( although i don't fall in that catagory ).

I do try to send links of related info to certain people...ie the Linacre Centre info to my daughter...thanks so much,

God bless

Hi Fr Tim

Thank you for an incredibly informative and lively blog forum with no holds barred that celebrates everything Catholic. I'm sure all the visitors would agree that we learn something new on every visit.

PS - It's Sunday evening and I'm sure I must be your 100,000th visitor. A crate of Beck's or Sol lager would be gratefully accepted!

Ha ha!
