Pope in curtain fabric

Having rejoiced in the choice of rochet for the blessing of the sick, I have to say that I am saddened by the revenge of the papal caeremoniere illustrated by this ghastly chasuble:

I think it is made from the same material as the jacket Fr Ted wore when singing "My lovely horse."

If Cardinal Bertone can think that with Brazilian seminarians the Vatican can win the World Cup, why shouldn't the Pope think that he and the Sweedish College can win Eurovision!
(PS. From the look on his face, he probably thinks its ghastly as well)

Matalan, as worn by Benedict XVI.
Next years papal sponsers will be Littlewoods! Perhaps Vatican II should have addressed the papal wardrobe? Do we hear guiter and drums in the background?

Since when did blue become an acceptable liturgical colour? Perhaps this is in honour of Marini's 20th anniversary.

Another sad liturgical turnout from the top.

He doesn't look happy to be wearing it either.

Il Papa doesn't look too thrilled at being caught wearing it...
;-)

Do you think he's imagining throttling the person responsible? He's certainly gripping the Cross rather firmly!

How can he bear it??

It is Lent!
There is a time for lace and a time for lurex.

Curtain fabric? Not in my Presbytery would they hang!

Of course, that 'new' papal pallium doesn't lend itself to many styles of vestments. Perhaps he ought to have a miniature one woven to wear with his preferred style....whatever that may be ....

LOOOL It's rather err starry and stuff. But even if he's wearing a naff Fr Ted chasuble, our Holy Father is just so great! Aw I love him! He's dead cool!

Perhaps (...if only) Marini knows his time is up so he's getting in his revenge whilst he can. At least in the Vatican Basilica St Peter got his tiara back for Feb 22nd. But blue spangled lurex ugh! Whatever happened to sober Roman purple?

I know that Papa Benedict plays great pianoforte but does he have to wear a 'Liberace wanna-be' coat!

I've seen various pictures of him wearing this vestment while still Cardinal Ratzinger - in the Ratzinger Fan Club it's variously known as the 'Vegas' or 'the Star Trek'. I rather like the idea of naming papal chasubles (as was done with Elvis' 70s stage suits).

Der Papst wore the same chasuble last year. It's purple, check the banner pic from last year (still hideous though!):

I now have visions of Fr Dougal Maguire saying "Are you alright there, Holy Father?"

Blue is perfectly acceptable liturgical colour. You will find it worn in certain privileged religious houses, the most obvious being Downside Abbey on solemnities of Our Blessed Lady.

You would not, however, find lurex worn at Downside.

My Lord Abbot wore the same thing yesterday. Something is going around Roma . . . and its contagious.
