"She is the Immaculata, who receives God's gift unconditionally and is thus associated with his work of salvation. Mary of Nazareth, icon of the nascent Church, is the model for each of us, called to receive the gift that Jesus makes of himself in the Eucharist."

Absolutely beautiful! Thanks for that Fr Tim.
God bless
Anyone know why the annunciation has been moved to tomorrow. I though the idea was now to move feasts to Sunday, not the other way round?
Channel 4 is running a poll following the Let's Talk Sex programme - currently 94% have voted in favour of compulsory sex education

A few years ago after my first visit to Lourdes I dared to ask myself "Why did Mary appear to tell us she was the Immaculate Conception. Surely this a a prime facie case of self glorification. I found that at the same time as the appearances Charles Darwin was publishing `Origin of the Species`. The connection was clear. Evolution reduces man to the level of an evolving animal but Mary was reminding us that we all have a soul whick makes us sons and daughters of God. A people higher that the animals, a people with dignity. She then asked us to pray for the conversion of sinners and her message was that we should honour what God had done for her by all means but we must look first to our own souls.
Paul, it's been transferred because the Sunday in Lent takes precedence... the feasts that are being moved are Holydays of Obligation...
Who painted this beautiful Madonna and Child?
Giovanni Battista Salvi da Sassoferrato. Looking him up, I find that he painted dozens of madonnas.
This one is undated and is in a private collection.
Mary is indeed our model, the model of the Church. Prieviously, I always wondered whether my devotion to Mary would become more prominent than the worship of God, then after some time, I've realized that the more I go to her, the more she would bring me to Christ.
You can see details on many hundreds of Sassoferrato's works on this website:
