Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.
A correspondent emailed me today about an online petition to restore the Holydays. The link takes you to the text of the covering letter and you can sign it from there.
Holy Days of Obligation are not obligatory anymore when they are transferred to the nearest Sunday because then people just turn for Sunday Mass and get a freebie by default. They are making no extra effort to come.
What are we trying to teach the people by doing this?
Right up there with the decision to tranfer the three Holy Days of Obligation is the decision of our Bishops' Conference that the Anniversary of the election of the Holy Father will not be observed tomorrow in England and Wales, but will be transferred to the Feast of Ss Peter and Paul. Are we part of the Universal Church or not? At least we can be grateful, I suppose, that they haven't tranferred the whole lot to the nearest Sunday.

Done.
Easy and painless and I trust that no English Bishops were hurt by the signing of this petition!
