Mulier Fortis has been digging away at the latest HFEA consultation. They are apparently consulting until 20 July 2007 about whether to allow the creation of human-hybrid embryos for the purposes of experimentation.
But the Government has decided to allow it anyway. Details over at:
Consultation ?? Oh Really??

Fr. Tim,
Does the fact that these hybrid entities mix human and animal elements mean that they would never have a spiritual soul infused into them? Or might they, if the hybrid (say) only had one body organ that was derived from an animal source, but was human in all other respects (including its intellectual potential)?
The fact I'm asking this question shows how scary this whole situation is -- it feels like we're well into Sodom & Gomorrah territory, i.e. divine retribution inevitable because of the gravity of the offence.
well it isn't that surprising. we live in a totalitarian state and all sorts of things are being 'passed' undemocratically. Remember - Russia's errors spreading if man continues sinning?
That is happening and the general public is asleep.

Don't get carried away. Although the Government is running ahead of itself, what has been announced is a draft bill, which is itself open to revision. It's still worth taking part in the consultation; if pro-life parliamentarians can point to an overwhelming result against hybrid embryos, that will help them.
