I heard today from Pluscarden Abbey that my booking can be accepted for a few days in August when I will be taking some time for retreat. This will be my first visit to Pluscarden. My parish organist has kindly lent me an illustrated guide to the Abbey: borrowed from her Godson who is one of the community at Parkminster. I will need to return it on one of my visits since she only sees her Godson once a year at the time of the family visit.
Must now book my flight to Inverness ...

It is a wonderful place, Father; I'm going again in October.
Never mind flying, take the sleeper from Euston to Inverness - far more usus antiquior!
Father,
do they let girls visit Pluscarden or is it a boys-only sort of club?
grrrls can visit - there is separate accommodation and eating, though AFAIK
If you're going to fly Father can I suggest you fly to Aberdeen as there is a bus from there to Elgin. That's how I do it every year. I'll chat to you about it next week!
Enjoy, Father, it's a wonderful place. The chant is splendid, monastic voices chanting properly rather than singing. My tape of it was played so often in the car that it broke.
An elderly monk went on a walk there and disappeared in the last year or three. Was he ever found?
The elderly monk was Fr Maurus and after searching for his body for a year the police gave up and the Abbey held a Memorial Mass for him two years ago that was very well attended (I was refused a room in the guesthouse because of the number of people attending).
May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace.
Many thanks for your travel tips. However - sleeper is £270. My BMI flight is £172. If I had taken Easyjet, it would have been £124 (times didn't suit)
Bus Aberdeen-Elgin is about two and a half hours and costs £14.50 return. For £18 return, the train from Inverness is 41 minutes.
I'm going up the night before so as to have a little look round Inverness while I'm up there.
