Catholic blogs round the world have been rejoicing at yet another notching up of gravitas in the papal liturgy for Palm Sunday today. So I took a little trip over to the Papa Ratzinger forum to get a good photo. They never let you down on things like this...The Cardinal Deacons in dalmatics are obviously now a permanently restored feature of the Papal Liturgy. I wonder if that rather fine cross is here to stay?

Dear Father - nothing to do with papal liturgy, but I wondered if you had seen the following:
'Abortion may cause mental illness'

Women may be at risk of developing mental health problems as a result of having an abortion, a leading group of doctors has warned.
The Royal College of Psychiatrists has changed its position on how terminating a pregnancy affects women in the face of new evidence.
Until now the college said the risk of psychological problems that come from following through with the pregnancy outweighed those of having an abortion.
But a major review of its position has resulted in a shift that acknowledges for the first time there may be mental health consequences of terminations.

Its position, last reviewed in 1994, stated that the risks of developing mental health for women who have abortions were much less than those who proceed with a pregnancy.
In new documents published by timesonline it now states: "The specific issue of whether or not induced abortion has harmful effects on women's mental health remains to be fully resolved.
"The current research evidence base is inconclusive - some studies indicate no evidence of harm, whilst other studies identify a range of mental disorders following abortion."
The college suggests information leaflets for women considering having abortions may need to include this new advice.
A YouGov poll by The Sunday Times found 59% of women would support a reduction in the upper time limit for "social" abortions from 24 to 20 weeks. Just under half of women and men approved a reduction, while 35% said they wanted to keep the status quo.
MPs are expected to vote in coming months on a such change in the law.
Looking at the photographs, the Paul VI crozier particularly jarred with the Christmas vestments worn by the Pope at the Urbi et Orbi. This cross is better, but where is the triple-barred patriarchal/metropolitan cross that Pope John Paul II carried when he opened the Holy Doors in 2000? That was splendid!
It was rather fantastic, although I wonder if the Pope will do another Novus Ordo Ad Orientem like he did a while back. I was surprised about how 'Italian' the Music was. I know that must seem a very stupid thing to say as he is the bishop of Rome but I've not heard music at a papal mass like that for a long time. I do wonder if he will ever publically celebrate the Tridentine rite? Probably more important yesterday was his homily. Very, very much needed at this time!
As well as the photos, you may like to see my comments on an article on the Pope's vesture in the Tablet. the italics are cut & pasted from the Tablet with my comments in plain text. http://theratzingerforum.yuku.com/topic/1793/t/Pope-s-vesture.html
Actually, I think the Pope's theology is the via media some Anglicans claimed to uphold. The Pope Benedict XVI Fan club's Forum is worth looking at.
