Fr Z has picked up a most interesting snippet from Andrea Tornielli: L’ultimatum del Vaticano ai ribelli di Lefebvre: pace se accettate il Concilio and has done us the service of translating it with his own trademark emphases and comments. (Cf. Countdown: accord between Holy See and SSPX)
The upshot is that the SSPX have been asked to send a response to Pope Benedict's proposals before 28 June - that is, the Vatican's close of business for the summer.
Rorate Caeli has further news that the existence of this offer has been confirmed by the SSPX.
I pray that this will indeed be a concrete step to the solution of any remaining canonical difficulties and that we may soon see the SSPX clergy at our deanery meetings ;-)

I'm very heartened by this news. It shall definately be among my prayer intentions.
Ah; close of business!
There was me thinking it was deliberately set as the vigil of Ss. Peter and Paul.
Thanks for posting this. It is a welcome antidote to the tide of SSPX members flooding into my life. So, what happens when the Vatican goes on summer break?
That would be magnificent indeed, Father. I, however am pessimistic, because we've had no hint in the later times that something would change.
The five conditions being placed on the SSPX are circulating in Italian and French. I've put them into English here: http://thesensiblebond.blogspot.com/2008/06/five-conditions.html
Sadly, however, if the words of Paul VI couldn't do it (here: http://www.conglomination.com/cg/lefebvre.htm), what makes His Eminence he has greater powers of persuasion? They think they are the great Catholic arbiters of what is right and wrong and truly are more Catholic than the Pope. Like the Jansenists before them, they are "pious as angels, proud as devils." Still, oremus.
