Rorate Caeli has published the document asking five things of the SSPX: Decision 2008: The Conditions. Update: The actual Document
My own take on this is that it looks vague enough for the SSPX to continue its constructive critique of much that has gone wrong since Vatican II whilst being in a regular canonical situation.
I heartily second Fr Z's urgent request for prayers.

I wonder how the guidelines will constrain them with respect to previous occupants of the Chair of Peter. In particular, how would they respond to a canonization of John Paul II (if that ever occurs)? It is much easier to refrain from criticizing the hand that lifts an excommunication than to refrain from criticizing the hand that imposed it (validly or no).
Does anyone know what the Vatican City's opinion on all this is?
SSPX - agreement

Aric - I think that the SSPX would accept the common theological opinion that canonisations are an exercise of infallibility.
Atlanta - not sure what you mean by "Vatican City's" opinion. There are many opinions there indeed. As regards the Holy See - I think that Pope Benedict is genuinely keen to see a regularisation of relations between the Holy See and the SSPX.
Fr. Tim, I don't understand why Pope Benedict tolerates the SSPX at all. I find them an obnoxious bunch of malcontents.
That's not my experience. The ones I have met have generally been friendly, devout Catholics.
