Double-standards at YouTube

There is an interesting article on the Richard Dawkins fan site (Petition YouTube for Pat Condell). Pat Condell has posted a video to YouTube criticising the Saudi-based islamicisation of Britain and, in particular, arguing against the use of Sharia Law. His video has been pulled by YouTube and he has been warned that his "violation of the community guidelines" may result in his account being terminated.

Meanwhile, over at mediawatchwatch (not to be confused with the excellent Media Watch UK) there is an article celebrating the restoration of "free speech" in that YouTube have allowed the videos of people desecrating the Blessed Sacrament to be shown, but deprecating the censorship of Pat Condell.

Anyone, secularists included, can see that there is a blatant double-standard operating here.

Father

You say 'not to be confused with' but your links both go to mediawatchwatch - the second one should surely go to Media Watch UK....

Youtube have now put fsmdude and his videos beyond an "Age-Gate" so you have to click to confirm your birthdate to see them. I couldn't bring myself to! I just wanted to check fsmdude's account again to see if I've remembered correctly that Pat Cordell is listed among his friends! I'm pretty sure he is. I just can't bring myself to confirm that I want to look at objectionable material!

Dear Father Tim

When the issue of Pat Condell's treatment by YouTube was aired by the BNP supporting poster 'Gazza' on the Millwall supporters messageboard www.hof.org.uk,Condell was described as a "veteran stand up comedian".

Personally I don't think he is funny and I don't like his video either, but I also don't think his work should be censored.

YouTube were very quick to censor my comments on the situation in Georgia, but they have allowed abusive comments of my video YouTube - Roy Hobson (From Dark to Light Too) to stand.

www.hof.org.uk have banned my poor Millwall supporter's messageboard posts and the poster known as Bermondsey Male Choir branded me Mr 666 on the evening of Halloween 2007,the very same night Meredith Kercher, 21, from Croydon, South London, was murdered in the bedroom of her apartment in Perugia.

Freedom of speech 'denied' is a true SOS KICK IT OUT 999 issue in the 21st Century.

Our Lady of the Rosary pray for us Amen

Here's another Dawkins double-standard - today's Guardian quotes Dawkins saying: "thinking is anathema to religion". I've posted this comment on the Guardian website:

"Um, let's see: Prof. Dawkins was educated at Oundle - a leading Christian school, and Balliol - founded under a Catholic bishop. He is a professor of Oxford university - founded by the Catholic Church, specifically a fellow of New College - also founded by a Catholic bishop. Prof. Dawkins believes in what is known as the scientific method - invented by the Catholic Church, and is a famous for his book on genetics - the "father" of whom was a Catholic priest (Mendel). So, far from thinking being anathema to religion, Prof. Dawkins has done quite well out of the thinking done by religion!"
