Bishop O'Donoghue on Zenit

There is a good interview with Bishop Patrick O'Donoghue on Zenit. (See Change and Continuity.) I especially liked his last paragraph:
I am convinced that we will only have a Catholic renewal in this country if clergy and laity, including the bishops, wholeheartedly accept obedience to the fullness of doctrinal, moral and liturgical truth as entrusted to, and protected by, the Successor of St. Peter.

Amen!

There are those who follow the lead of the Blessed Mother: "Fiat, Mihi...." (Let it be done unto me).

Of all things that we could possibly surrender, it is the will that is most difficult. As we saw with Judas, God does not force us to exercise self-control against greed and pride (and people should keep in mind that by his example in Scripture, we will always have "Judas" among the priests and bishops, but they will be a real minority).

In contrast, there are those whose mantra reads: "Your will Lord.....as long as it agrees with mine".

Faith isn't preceded by understanding. Rather, faith seeks understanding.

It's ok to struggle. But, struggle in a way that doesn't cause scandal to others while seeking answers to lift the cloud of doubt and misunderstanding. "Ask and you shall receive".

I have found that when I had difficult understanding a Church teaching, and took this prayerful approach along with acceptance in the absence of understanding, I would receive my "education" in the most unusual of places.

God can infuse that undertanding without any study whatsoever, but it comes at times we least expect - like while standing in line at the market.

A brilliant interview from Bishop O'Donoghue. His full reports are excellent documents that challenge and provoke many within the Church, be they "right" or "left". His call for balance is key. For far too long, many people (thinking of the liturgical wars) have stood towards the extremes.

I hope his brother bishops support him.

I guess at 75, his diocese broke and the Church in disarray everywhere, he has decided to try his hand at Catholicism.

He should translate to Westminster. 3 or 4 years of POD would be the best option available.

He used to be an auxilary there so he knows his way around.
