Today I said the Mass and Office Saint Didacus of Alcalá who is more popularly known as San Diego. The saintly Franciscan lay brother died in 1463 and was canonised by Pope Sixtus V in 1588. in 1602, Sebastián Vizcaíno claimed the Mission Bay and gave the area the name of San Diego. Happy Feast Day to any readers from San Diego!

Whatever caused my l/t to crash on Hof C has passed now.
We have a pro-cathedral dedicated to San Diego here in the Diocese of Bacolod, Philippines. It's in Silay City, north of Bacolod, where the new airport for Bacolod is located. San Diego parish church was made a pro-cathedral in 1994 but I'm not sure why, since we have a cathedral, dedicated to San Sebastian.
As a resident of San Diego, my humble thanks. In fact, in your picture, if you look at the brightest building in the center (One America Plaza), near the top of the building on the 33rd floor, is where I am writing this comment from.
:-D Thanks, would have posted myself on that but I was "busy, busy." Last year I had a few pictures of the area just north of the Mission San Diego de Alcala.
One of the pictures is of the damn built by the Missions.
Mr Neutron - wow - quite a location!
Fr Ray - I think it was the large Scribd file with the book in it.
This information sounds like a great "bar bet" at a Theology on Tap session.
I would have bet mucho that San Diego was dedicated to the same saint as Santiago de Compostela in NW Spain. And lost.
Ha-ha -- sorry, meant "dam" on that one! However "damn" it's nice out here today - keep your fingers crossed we don't have any fires in SD .
It's been unseasonably warm even for us. 89 where I write this. Not really "hot" though, as humidity is about 18%. It's been like this for the last few days and will be for the weekend too. This could pass for a warm summer day. [Except the water temp.]
Bad fires up in Montecito, with over 100 homes burned, say some prayers for them. So far NO Santa Anas in SD county like last year say a few prayers for us too that it stays that way. It's late in the season still to have this sort of fire condition. We'd usually ahve had some rain by now, but so far very little.
Ray from MN: I too thought that San Diego was the same as Santiago (St James) until Bishop Vicente Navarra of Bacolod put me straight on the matter last year. 'Jaime" is the more usual baptismal form in Spanish of 'James'.
If you look at the brightest building in the center.I had a few pictures of the area just north.San Diego Limo
