In August, I reported on the Havoc wrought in process of ICEL approval whereby the US Bishops failed to approve the new ICEL texts for the Proper of Seasons.
Thankfully now the texts have been approved (see: Bishops approve section of missal translation) and we may hope that this is a step forward in the painful process towards an English Missal that presents with a degree of accuracy the texts that we are actually supposed to pray during the Mass.

Something I've been wondering regarding the new English Roman Missal. Do you think that once we get a realtively good translation of the Roman Missal in English that this will take steam away from the movement towards an increase in using Latin?
I would fear that some priests and congregations who wanted Latin because the current English was so watered down, will "settle" for a good English translation.
Just a thought.
I understand that the Bishops "heavily amended" the ICEL translation.
Is this likely to have negative repurcussions with respect to the CDWDS' recognitio?
The whole mess compares unfavourably with the Holy Father's amendment of the Good Friday prayer pro Iudeis in the EF. The Holy Father spoke, and before you knew it, we were praying the new prayer. Of course, the Latin version of that prayer was the only one that really mattered...
Whilst the Bishops Conference's input could be valuable here, they really need to remember that they are part of a universal Church and behave accordingly.
To be honest, I think that the delay in approving the English texts has allowed so much momentum to build up for the TLM that it will not make much impact - but it will mean that English Masses are vastly improved.
David - I don't know what amendments they may but I suspect they would not have been major.
The dialogue the bishops had on "ineffable" was ... interesting.
I saw it on EWTN. Bishop Trautman and Bishop Galeone led the charge to simplify it with the word, "Divine".
Several bishops spoke up about leaving it as is, but I think Bishop Earl Boyea of Lansing, Michigan (recently installed) won the day when he said (paraphrased), "Brother bishops, let's just teach the people what 'ineffable' means".
