Replies to Kmiec's attack on Catholic bloggers

Douglas Kmiec is a Catholic academic lawyer in the States, and a high-profile supporter of Barack Obama (he recently wrote "Can A Catholic Support Him?: Asking the Big Question About Barack Obama"). In the current issue of the US Catholic journal Commonweal, Kmiec attacked "right wing" Catholic bloggers. See A Tangled Web. The Election & the Blogosphere.

Thomas Peters of American Papist has written a sensible and measured response: An open letter to Doug Kmiec (on behalf of the “right-wing Catholic blogosphere”)

CNA has an article Catholic bloggers respond to Kmiec criticism which refers to the piece by Thomas Peters. It also quotes Mark Shea of Catholic and Enjoying It!:
“I'm not interested in hearing Kmiec moan about how mean people from the bottom of the barrel were to him,” Shea told CNA. “I’m interested in hearing his responses to the very intelligent critiques of his position that were offered by a number of very respectable and honorable Catholics.”

Mark Shea has something of an attitude I'd say.

Is there a prize for being the 1,000,000 visitor to your Blog Fr?

If I can identify who it is, I'm sure that a prize would be called for!

Surely Christ is at the centre of the Catholic Blogosphere just as he is with everything else Catholic.

Left/Right,Black/White,Masculine/Feminine we each navigate our own paths to that centre.

Thank you for allowing me to journey here on your Blog.

I like Mark, he can be meaner than most and his name that keeps appearing on this list of people who want to portray others doing different ministry as 'uncharitable and uncivilized is silly.

You know what's funny?

I just had some in this same group who runs around telling people they are the civilized charitable ones mischaracterize Rachel Zoll on AP as a "bigot". Rachel is not a bigot and I have told many of them about my personal conversations with the woman - yet they refused to apologize and continue on with screeds trying to characterize what Boston bloggers are doing as pulling sinners out of the pews by the hair on their head.

It is a complete miscaracterization of both Zoll and Boston Bloggers but they launched slander to tell the world how civilized they are.

They didn't get much traction from the grassroots who is starting to catch on that writing letters for the last 20 years to Bishops and the Holy See must also be accompanied by exposing a scandal if it is not removed.

I for one, am growing weary of this group of bloggers mischaracterizing people and I think the crowds are growing thin around their egos. (Some of them I have had personal interactions with and they stab everyone in Christendom in the back)

It is time for a change of game.

Mark will be holding his breath for a long time. As Socrates pointed out in THE SOPHIST [lege The Lawyer] lawyers do not much take to criticism and answer by changing the subject or changing the words.

Dawkins had the same reaction to Mary Midgly's criticism "She's a meany".
