No particular reason for posting this other than that I thought it was a particularly fine photo of Pontifical Mass. It was taken at the Solemn Rededication of Old St. Patrick Oratory in Kansas City MO. Christopher at Lost Lambs blog has more photos from the consecration.H/T Ad Sanitatem Gentium

THAT'S my Mass!!!
Oops. I spoke too soon. Nix the Knights of Columbus with the swords raised in the air. I really don't think it is appropriate, particularly during the consecration. I have seen this done at a certain church locally. I don't see the difference between this and liturgical dancing. Aside from the silliness of it and the distraction it creates, I feel it's quite wrong to raise swords at the moment the sacrifice of the Cross is re-presented.
Not sure about that. In the biography of Fr William Doyle, the saintly priest who died looking after soldiers in WW1, I read of how a colour party would be present in the sanctuary and present arms at the consecration. This is traditionally a sign of respect. What perhaps should be done with the sword is to raise it and then point it towards the ground as a sign that it is not going to be used in aggression.
I think the swords are a nice touch, it is the knights offering to the Lord. Their swords, which is symbolic of their service; and that is their true offering.
If the point of the swords was to call attention on themselves I would agree, but this is not the case here.
Father-
