Faith Magazine on Blackfen

The content of the latest Faith Magazine is now online. There is a good editorial on scripture and the hermeneutic of rupture, along with articles on Stanley Jaki, the epistle to the Hebrews, and moral theology.

The column by William Oddie, "Comment on the Comments" focuses on the Tablet's attack on my parish and summarises the issue very well.

Good article, but the author marrs it with this cheap shot: "them ("Eucharistic ministers", it may be said in passing, are frequently among those semi-clericalised laity who busy-body their way into positions of prominence in the Parish, and don't like it when Father decides he is going to exercise priestly leadership in a way which threatens their little world"

My only criticism of William Oddie's excellent article is that he titles it "Snapshot of a British Catholic Psychology". I would have written Pathology, as in "any deviation from a healthy, normal, or efficient condition, the conditions and processes of a disease."

If the "shot" fits ...

I agree with Gem. No doubt there may be busibodies but in my experience most Extraordinary Ministers of Communion are doing it because they have been persuaded by the parish priest.

No, the "shot" doesn't fit. It gets "old" really quickly. Anything that's wrong the EM get the blame, deserved or not. A better editor would have caught that particular flammer.

I'm sorry if I gave offence: but I saId 'frequently' (which is true) not 'always'. However, I apologise where appropriate. And I agree about the word 'pathology': (I didn't write the headline)

Many thanks for your comment, William. The article was excellent and the EM comment was only a side issue.
