Are the blue sashes on the bosy widespread custom?
I've never seen that before (I'm in the US.)

It's a local custom for us. There was an argument about blue/red a while back but we went for blue because of its connection to Our Lady who is the patroness of our parish.

With dragging out all the details this past Sunday the oldest was asked to step in as altar server as the poor priest was unexpectedly abandoned by his usual crowd of servers as they had all gone away for the bank holiday weekend.
This was something she had never even considered doing before as she is quite a shy quiet girl. As I watched her do her best to help the priest while not really knowing what to do I felt extremely proud but at the same time I also felt slightly uncomfortable.
She really enjoyed herself, and afterwards during one of our little chats we talked about how it was a huge privilege to assist a priest saying Mass. Now however I feel myself stuck between a rock and a hard place as to whether to encourage her or not. I know little if anything about the practice of female altar servers in the Church and before I give my support one way or the other I wanted to find out some more information. I have managed to get a brief history from wikipedia but it does not really discuss the topic. I have noticed from I have seen of your Mass pictures you don’t have girls service and wondered if you could tell me why or point me in the right direction so I can find out for myself and make an informed decision.
As although I am content to remain in my pew if I am going to encourage anyone else whether it be a young 10 year old or full grown woman to do the same I want to be informed rather than saying “do as I say because I say so”.

I think I saw Derick's profile on http://www.gatheringguide.com/ec/photographers.html, is that the same Derick? We were thinking of hiring him for our wedding but then it got postponed due to a number of things.
