Q. My name is Federico. ... What can sick and HIV-positive prisoners ask of the Pope? ... We are barely mentioned, but, when we are, in aggressive terms, as if seeking to have us eliminated from society. This makes us feel subhuman.Rather moving, I thought. It reminded me of an old story from the CDF which I report as I remember it. One week, Cardinal Ratzinger was shown a copy of an Italian newspaper which had a hatchet piece about him. The junior official was nervous, thinking that the Cardinal would be angry. He read the piece through, then said "If I did not read something like that about myself each week, I would know that I was not doing my job."
A. "We have to endure the fact that people speak about us 'aggressively'. They also speak 'aggressively' about the Pope, yet nonetheless we move on. I think it is important to encourage everyone to think positively, to understand your sufferings, to understand the need to help you rise again. I will do my part, inviting everyone to think in the right way, not abusively but humanly, understanding that anyone can fall, but God wants everyone to reach Him. We must cooperate in a spirit of fraternity recognising our own fragility so that people can truly so that they can truly rise up and move forward with dignity, so that they may grow and thus find happiness in life, because life is granted to us by the Lord ... . The Lord will help you and we are close to you."

There is a beautiful video of the Holy Father's visit to the prison on Rome Reports.
The prisoners and staff were obviously very pleased to have him with them.
God bless our Pope!
(PS - I need to re-read Duffy's book, as I'd completely forgotten about priests asking their parishioners about the works of mercy)
What a truly extraordinary man he is.
And how lucky we are. This really came home to me last night, after seeing the film 'Habemus Papem / We have a pope'. I would recommend it highly to anybody - really well done, sensitive, moving and with some very amusing moments. See it if you can.
@Father Finigan
Your prison visit to me in HMP High Down in 2002 still lives in my memory.
My family relationships are currently stretched to breaking point, and I would settle for a Christmas card at the moment.
Once again I am fighting for my FARE life in both Criminal and Civil Courts.
At present I am an unsuccessful sole principle in private practice, and for the last six years of my life, my regeneration consultancy has been based on the Larner Road Estate in Erith, where I occupy a single bedroom flat at No 8 Badlow Close.
My Thames Gateway City Challenge development casework, which began in Deptford after I qualified RICS in 1984, has made considerable progress in recent years, and it was referred to the Home Secretary in May 2010 by John Austin the former MP for Erith & Thamesmead, but I have never been invited to become a member of Orbit South’s Core Group for the Larner Road Regeneration Scheme, and the recent total exclusion of me, and my consultancy from the Core Group on November 7th 2011 by Orbit South’s Caroline Field, evidences the extreme prejudicial treatment that I have received as an ex-offender since becoming a tenant of Orbit South in 2005.
I believe that I am the victim of an orchestrated ‘conspiracy to pervert the course of justice’ that involves Orbit South HA, their Conservative business partners, and the Metropolitan Police.
The bundle of papers that I have been served with in relation to Claim 1DA02826 are a malevolent combination of truth, half truth, and downright lies, as are the associated criminal charges that I am facing in Greenwich Magistrates Court on the 5th January 2012 at 2.30pm.
I have issued a complaint against the police (see attached letter from the IPCC) that goes to the very heart of London’s Thames Gateway City Challenge 1984-2012, and the associated legal proceedings in both Greenwich Magistrates Court, and Dartford County Court too.
I am praying that my defence in Greenwich Magistrates Court on January 5th 2012 will totally expose this conspiracy for what it is, and I would expect that Orbit South’s associated claim against me in Dartford County would then collapse, and that this letter of defence would then be met with acceptance, and no reply by the Claimant on the deadline set for 4pm on the 10th January 2012 by District Judge Greenfield in his Notice of Allocation of the Multi-Track.
@Father Finigan
Thank you for publishing my ex-offenders UNLOCK FOCUS comment, I was running out of time on an Erith library PC so I didn't have enough time left to edit the content as I would have liked.
I desperately wanted to bring you as the RC Dean of Bexley 100% up to speed with these critical legal developments. It would be great if you could visit the Larner Road Estate in the New Year with a representitive from Our Lady of the Angels, Erith. Demolishing the 7Nr tower blocks, investing £128 million, and regenerating the built environment certainly could do with your blessing.
Seb Salom, Head of Strategic Planning and Transportation, London Borough of Bexley, informs me that the Cabinet Member will make a decision on the adoption of the final Supplementary Planning Document for Erith Western Gateway 'before the end of the year'.
Our Lady of the Rosary pray for us!
