Whiskey Catholic is a blog devoted to whiskey which scores different whiskeys according to levels in Dante's Paradiso. The authors say:
Whiskey Catholic is the product of three friends’ long-held passion for the only three objects worth pursuing: Catholicism, culture, and whiskey. This is a counterpoint to the preferences of some of the men in my parish who count the three objects worth pursuing as "The traditional Mass, county cricket and real ale".
Yesterday, Michael, Andrew and Nicholas reviewed Ardbeg, an Islay Malt which has a deliciously peaty flavour. They give it a rating as 8th level of Paradiso.

can these not be combined? Real ale with a whisky chaser? (Maybe not in Lent)
I assume you realise that Whiskey spelt with an E is Irish Whiskey. Scotch is Whisky (without an E,,,,) but you knew that! :)
Well yes, but I left the spelling as they had it. Back in the day, spelling was more loosely regulated. My Father always insisted that it was British immigration officials who gave us the odd spelling of "Finigan"
"Traditional Mass, country cricket and real ale " or
"Catholicism,culture and whiskey"
really all worthwhile pursuits-along with the godly courtship of women i would have added. They both show "
1.duty to God
2. duty to fellow human beings and fulfilling the Culturla mandate
3. duty to god's creation.
As an Australian I would put it as
" Traditional Latin mass, getting the Ashes back ,and boutique beers"
The Clancy Brothers used to sing "Whiskey, you're the devil" but I've never held any brief for their demonology.
My own surname has two forms in Irish (traditional spelling and Gaeilge Nua) whereas there are over twenty recorded anglicised variants - mostly down to British officialdom.
I would heartily concur with your experts. My own whisky preference is Macallan. The one I cannot stand is Laphroaig...I probably have misspelled it. I think that brand is simply awful. There is a really lovely Glenmorangie called the Quinta Ruban in which the maturation has been done in Port barrels not Sherry barrels and that is my current top one.
I'm interested in your poster Gervaise Crouchback. My local Catholic paper is The Record and there is a Crouchback who contributes regularly in it. Are they the same person?
Good on him anyway!
Do they sell it with chocolate?
Gervase, hope you saw my comparison years ago with the TLM and Test Matches....on Z.
"Finigan" created by British immigration officials?
Where did your father - or his male forebear - come from? If it was America, then that could happen, but not if it was Ireland, because except for a few years during the Second World War (the "Emergency" as it was politely called in Ireland) there has never been any control on immigration from Ireland into Britain - until 1922 they were the same country!
