Polls to vote in

A couple of polls to cast a vote in. It only takes a moment... Should the Pope be charged with ‘crimes against humanity’, over the alleged cover-up of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church? ABC News Radio (Australia) Do you think the Pope should face legal action over the Catholic child abuse cover-ups? New Humanist

Poll on assisted suicide

Image
Lord Joffe, who has campaigned strenuously for the legalisation of assisted suicide, is giving a public lecture at Bath University to promote his views. The University wishes the public to have their say in a poll on their website. It is a good, straightforward question "Should assisted dying be legalised for the terminally ill?" Currently there is a massive majority of "No" votes - go over to help keep it that way. Cast your vote here.

Fr Z language poll

Fr Z seems to have got into polls of late. They are fun - I must do one or two. He has recently asked readers about cheeseburger/hamburger and about which refreshing beverage they prefer. Today he has asked which language you prefer for Holy Mass. There are two options: Latin or "My mother tongue or daily language". (Go over and vote at: Really... admit it... ) The combox is quite fun. the first comment by "Jon" earns its own comments in red: this is a really dumb idea. we all know how the readers of NLM are going to answer? [Not as dumb as you not knowing that this isn’t NLM! o{]:¬) ] "Paul the Other" starts off Cerevisia bibo. Oops! Wrong poll. Slightly more attentive, Daniel Muller says Latin. So much easier than the pickle question. One good question was raised by a psychiatrist locally in a discussion of this issue: "In what language does God speak to you?"

"Whaddya call this Mass?" runoff poll

Fr Z has had a poll running on the preferred name for the Mass celebrated according to the Liturgical books of 1962 (about which there have been such diverse sensibilities among bishops). After an initial poll with a number of choices, there is now a shortlist of three: Extraordinary form/use Traditional Latin Mass or TLM Tridentine Mass Vote for your choice here . Of those, I'd vote for TLM. But I'm sticking obstinately to "Classical Roman Rite". The word "classical" does not have to refer to the Greek and Roman classics: we speak of "classical music" after all. I'm going with definition 3 of the COD: "3 a in or following the restrained style of classical antiquity. (cf. ROMANTIC). b. in or relating to a long-established style."

BBC hybrid embryo poll

The BBC website currently has a piece on hybrid embryos with a poll . The question is "Should hybrid embryos be used for research?" which, of course misses the point of whether they should be created in the first place. Nevertheless, worth a few moments to cast your "No" vote. Currently 48.25% yes, 44.57% no and 7.17% don't know. 18232 votes cast so, if my maths are correct, if 700 readers vote "no", we will tip the balance... Vote here .

Cast your vote

There is a poll in a paper Fr Z refers to as "one of the worst, one of the most liberal newspapers in the USA, the execrable Minneapolis Star-Tribune" The poll asks "Should the church allow wider use of the Latin Mass?" Ignore the ignorant wording - just go and vote here :-)

Support Cardinal Pell

The Sydney Morning Herald is running a poll as follows: Cardinal Pell and stem cells Rate his warning to Catholic politicians about voting in favour of stem cell research A spiritual leader has the right to point out moral and religious consequences He should keep out of politics. Churchmen shouldn't make veiled threats against MPs Let our elected representatives decide on their own Cast your vote here .

Channel 4 sex-ed poll

Channel 4 is running a poll. Wording as follows: Sex and relationships education in Britain has been highlighted by Davina McCall in Let’s Talk Sex. Tell us what you think. Should sex education be compulsory in the UK for all pupils regardless of their parents' wishes? When I looked, it was 93% in favour of sex-ed regardless of parents' wishes. Here is a link where you can cast your vote .

That's enough brussels sprouts - ed.

252 votes were cast Uurgh! Hate em! 82.5% - 208 votes Yummy, they're great! 13.9% - 35 votes As a moderate, I eschew such extremes. They are palatable but I would not enthuse wildly about them. 3.6% - 9 votes I must say that the large number of moderate votes came as a surprise :-)

New Brussels Sprout survey

Further to Brussels Sprouts. It's official. 80% of the people commenting on this issue so far today like Brussels Sprouts. I don't think I had better add this statistic to the Wikipedia article. Instead, I have devised another poll with ultra-rigorous methodology. Vote as often as you like. (I was going to post the picture of the Brussels Sprouts but whenever I have tried to post pictures today, I have been told: "Blogger has been unable to complete your request" - whether I have tried to upload from my own HD or link from the web. Is this a general issue today?)
