Former ACCC Chairman appointed Bishop

Cathedral Armidale

Father Michael Kennedy of the Diocese of Wagga Wagga in Australia, has been appointed as Bishop of the Diocese of Armidale. For some years, Fr Kennedy was the Chairman of the Australian Confraternity of Catholic Clergy. He succeeds Bishop Luc Matthys whom I met at the Confraternity meeting in Rome in January 2010 which he attended.

I expect that there will be some very happy priests and people in the Diocese of Armidale.

A beautiful cathedral - I recall attending Mass there when staying nearby on holiday last year. Armidale is a very pleasant town, seat also of the local Anglican diocese, and the University of New England (the name of the surrounding area of northern NSW). Situate as it is on a high plateau, the climate is quite moderate.

An excellent appointment! Armidale has been in good hands, and will continue to be. Deo gratias!

The American CCC congratulates our Australian brethren in the appointment of their former chairman as Bishop. Bishop Elect Kennedy is an excellent choice and someone of the same caliber of Bishop Elliot.

With a number of appointments pending in England and Wales, dare we hope for a few faithful parish priests to be elevated to the episcopate here?

I may be a bit late in expressing my delight at this appointment. I hope that we, in Perth, get someone of similar ilk to replace our Archbishop.
