Where the hell is Matt

Someone posted this on Facebook and I found it amusing so I thought you might too. Where the Hell is Matt gives some more information about this guy who does a dance in different places round the world. His site says Matt is quasi-famous as "That guy who dances on the internet. No, not that guy. The other one. No, not him either. I'll send you the link. It's funny." Well I don't know about the "quasi" bit, since the above video has had over 31 million views. I scheduled it for 9am so that you can have something to smile at when you hit the desk in the morning.

Video: "Pope Benedict XVI - My Vatican"

Image
A correspondent sent me the link to this video by Journeyman Pictures calle Pope Benedict XVI - My Vatican . There is a (very) irritating advert at the beginning and a few statements with which we would take issue, but on the whole it is a well produced and sympathetic documentary with some fascinating comments by Cardinal Ratzinger when he was Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Embedding is disabled (why would anyone want to choose that option?) so here is the link .

Liturgy wars on Mars

The other day I received video response to my Summorum Pontificum celebration . I was interested in the service provided by xtranormal which enables you to make your own animated videos and have just tried it out. I think many of you could have fun with this...

Flash Opera

Here is a flash mob with a difference. Over 30 members of the The Opera Company of Philadelphia burst into the "Brindisi" of La Traviata at the Reading Terminal Market Italian Festival. A fun video for a summer afternoon. H/T The Deacon's Bench

In the footsteps of St Dominic

Image
A little late, I know, but warmest congratulations to Thomas Skeats and Robert Gay who were ordained last Saturday at Blackfriars in Oxford by Bishop Longley, and the internet's finest Catholic photographer, Fra Lawrence Lew who was ordained deacon. Fra Lawrence has written about his love for photography and you can browse over 7000 photographs in his Flickr photostream . I knew that I was in some of them so I had a look through some of the sets... On the Godzdogz blog there is also this video from 1964 to promote vocations to the Dominican order. A Dominican priest, ordained ten years, reflects on his own vocation to explore God's truth together with his brothers under Mary's protection. There is some fascinating footage of the Dominican rite of Mass. It is always encouraging to hear good news and I am delighted that the Dominicans both here and in Ireland are flourishing.

Documentary on The Taking of Christ

Image
Rorate Caeli  has posted videos from YouTube which show in five sections a documentary on the life of Caravaggio, whose 400th anniversary was on 18 July. The programme focusses particularly on the painting The Taking of Christ which belongs to the Irish Jesuits and is currently housed in the National Gallery of Ireland. Programmes which are uploaded in ten minute segments are easier to view if they are in a playlist. You can then click on the playlist and the clips will automatically start up in sequence. I have made a playlist of these videos at my YouTube channel so if it is helpful do click on the link: The Private Life of an Easter Masterpiece: the Taking of Christ .

Fabulous nerdy video

Here's a fun video to help you start the day if the time before your annual is starting to drag: "A Biologist's Mother's Day Song" Thanks to Jennifer's Favourite Links who heads her post "If there is a more fabulously nerdy video, I have not seen it." Two good rhymes: mRNA mitochondria That back in the day once belonged to ya [...] I roomed in your womb for nine whole months and never paid the rent Your glucocorticoids shaped my hypothalmic development In a whimsical way, and perhaps without intending to explicity, this song has a "light touch" pro-life message woven in (or perhaps "spiralled".)

"You got to pray"

I just came across this video on YouTube of Fr Stan Fortuna of the Franciscans of the Renewal with a very straightforward message about prayer: There's much more of Fr Fortuna over at Francesco Productions .

Lecture by Alice Von Hildebrand

Many thanks to Andrew Cusack for this opportunity to see and hear a great speaker.

Blessed Sacrament procession on a train

The other day I posted about a Blessed Sacrament procession that went on a boat. Thanks to Berenike of Laodicea for the link to this video of a Blessed Sacrament procession on a train!

Bob Newhart sketch

I have, from time to time, heard Americans talking about Bob Newhart but never really understood. Now I do, thanks to this video which I saw at Catholic Minority Report .

French Priests' go-kart racing cup

Since this is the sort of thing that many lay people find hilarious, I thought I should share it with you. Here is the website for Padre Cup - Championnat de karting des pretres which takes place on 7 June 2010. I'll wait to see whether the big screen in the Parish Social Club gets reserved for this. (Only if Millwall aren't playing that day, of course.)

Promo video for the Holy Father's visit

This video, put together unofficially by some lads wishing to "do their bit" is intended to be the first in a series of videos promoting the Holy Father's visit to Britain in September.

May Feelings III

The third in a series of "May Feelings" videos (See YouTube for May Feelings and May Feelings II ). All promote the Rosary - the latest is part of a movement encouraging people to pray the Rosary for priests: We already know that we are not alone; now, they need to know that they are not alone. I like the way that the priest chosen for the film is an elderly and frail priest and that the film essentially emphasises his fidelity to prayer. The video has been posted less than a week and as of 6.10pm today had 112,957 views.
