Abortion statistics just published

The Department of Health yesterday published the abortion statistics for 2005. Bottom line - 186,400 unborn children killed through abortion last year in England and Wales.

It is very sad to read that of every 1000 girls aged under 16, 3.7 had an abortion last year. Even apart from the question of the sanctity of the life of the unborn child, this statistic should raise a serious concern about the effectiveness of child-protection policy. I remind readers that in April, the Children's Minister, Beverley Hughes, rejected the recommendation of the Bichard Report (into the Soham murders) that social workers should ordinarily notify the police about sexual offences committed against children. (see original post)

Of course, the figure also highlights yet again the dismal failure of the current approach to "sex-education".
