Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.

Celebrations at New Brighton
After Mass today one of my altar servers gave me a slice of cake that he had brought back from the celebrations at New Brighton yesterday for the opening of the shrine of St Peter and St Paul and St Philomena. The family travelled up, starting at a frightfully early hour, but they all seemed full of energy this morning. defénde nos in proélio has an account with photos: Dome of Home: Beacon of Hope. I like the above photo because it puts the gathering of clergy firmly into the context of the place of worship, centred on Christ. The human presence is rightly small in proportion to the sanctuary and the altar.
My good friend Fr Simon Henry was also there and has a report at his blog with some more great photos. See: Mass today. Here is one of Bishop Davies and sacred ministers:
Here is a video posted by Fr Henry, with part of Bishop Davies' sermon:
and here is a link to the full text of the sermon.
Congratulations to the Institute of Christ the King, Sovereign Priest, to the people of New Brighton and the Wirral, and to Bishop Davies and the Diocese of Shrewsbury.

God Bless, Bishop Mark. He's a living Saint. How I wish he could be the Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster.
I am a contemporary of Bishop Davies and even tested my vocation as a young man. How he came through the madness of the 70's and 80's still in one piece is frankly baffling.
I am not sanguine about the prospect of the "hermeneutic of continuity" project. The best that can be achieved is more chaos requiring regularization by a future Pope and chastened Vatican apparatchiks. This time however coming down on the side of tradition.
In the short term (and judging by the bizarre behaviour of the CDF towards the SSPX), the future remains bleak.
Could the Monty Python Mitre be any more rediculous!?!
love the mitre
If only SSPX would take the bishop's words to heart.
Matthew M - Well you could have a really ridiculous mitre with some modernistic squiggle on it.
All liturgical vestments are ridiculous if judged by the standards of the world (or Monty Python etc.)
If you want bad fashion Matthew M, I suggest you check out the average concelebrated diocesan Mass especially at the Cathedral. I was in mine the other day and there was about a dozen priests with the bishop. They were like extras from a 1970's science fiction TV series. All of them oblivious to how absurd they looked on a reordered sanctuary for which this type of 'celebration' was never designed.
A complete fail.
Dear Fr. Tim
This is marvellous news indeed! The beacon is lit and shining.
May God bless Bishop Mark Davies and all who have made this possible by their works, prayers and sacrifices.
We are very grateful to you all.
