Lourdes calendrical coincidence
An observant clerical correspondent informs me that this year the dates of Lent and Easter correspond exactly with those of 1858, the year Our Lady appeared to St Bernadette in Lourdes. The first apparition on 11 Feb 1858 was a Thursday - the same this year; and Easter Sunday was April 4th - the same in 2010.
The photo above is the group from my parish in 2008, the 150th anniversary of the apparitions. This year, we are combining with St Mary's Chislehurst.

1858 and 2010 are also years when the Orthodox Paska and Western Easter concide.
I was reading Bernadette: In Her Own Words this past week and I noticed the same thing.
Oh.... let's be careful here that we don't run away with ourselves!
Next we'll be interpreting these mystical 'Numbers' within a DaVinci Code mindset and who knows where that one will go! :-)
'End of Days' anybody.....?
SPOOKY !!!
George and Zephyrinus please calm down.
The calendrical coincidence has no significance whatsoever. There's nothing mystical or spooky about it. It happens about four times each century and is determined by the date of Easter Sunday.
It simply makes it easier for pilgrims who are visiting Lourdes between now and Low Week to connect the dates of the 18 apparitions to the days of the Seasons of Lent and Easter.
FOUR TIMES each Century ? And it's happening NOW ? That IS Spooky !!!
Every morning I mentally take with me to the Grotto at Loudres everyone on my Special Intentions List,my family and friends. There we ask Mary to interceed for us to her Son and our Lord, Jesus. As inscribed in the nearby basilica: Through Mary to Jesus.
