A priest friend of mine today made an amusing point. He referred to the various groups campaigning for women priests, the abolition of celibacy, opposing
Summorum Pontificum, delaying the accurate translation of the Mass and so on. He wondered why they were not holding novenas, rosaries, and all-night vigils of adoration for these intentions.

We'll be doing all of those at Youth2000 in Harrogate this weekend, but not for the advancement of militant modernism!
I hope the weekend is a great success, Kate.
They will be, Father - just as soon as the nurse lets them stay up all night, their arthritic fingers can hold a rosary, and their Alzheimers lets them count up to nine !
. . . or am I being unkind ?
The reason why they're not "holding novenas, rosaries, and all-night vigils of adoration" is that these are Catholic practices.
A sort of "by their fruits ye shall know them", eh, Father?
Isn't that rather a serious point, though, Father? (even if it is also humourous)
I remember the simple point being made that veneration of Our Lady and the Saints is something that marks out those who are faithful to Our Lord and His Bride. Those who side too much with worldliness, seldom do. That thought struck at me with much force. The fact of it is so large, so simple, it's almost hard to spot.
I had also failed to noticed the absence of novenas, rosaries prayed by those of the spirit-of-the-age. It turns out to be an unmistakable sign of which Spirit, worldly or Divine, one serves.
I love Harrogate. Many is the time that I have been there and the crocuses on the Stray are superb. You're a bit early for them arn't you?
JARay
'He wondered why they were not holding novenas, rosaries, and all-night vigils of adoration for these intentions.'
Why? Simple - I'll tell you why!
Because these Baby-Booming, Kum-Ba-Yaying, Cafeteria-Catholics base their idea of Faith on themselves, on the theology of 'Me, Myself and I'. Of course, the Rosary, Novenas, Latin Mass and all-night Vigils of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament do NOT feature in this kind of theology at all.
They'd sooner be studying enneagrams, holding a 'sacred pebble' naming ceremony and dancing on the sanctuary with blazing braziers!
As far as they are concerned untill such time as God finally gets 'it', catches up with 'the spirit of the times' and conforms Himself to their way of thinking well they will just keep up their their tricks and continue their disobedience and heresies!
Because "God is here among us" must be some slang for "everything is politics and politics is everything" ;)
I'm pretty sure a novena to Paul VI has been composed by these people...
Uhmmm...just a guess, but, do they believe in prayer, the supernatural or God, perchance?
Just askin':<)!
Where would they get rosaries? They also have no idea what phase and sign the moon should be in or what color candle to burn for such intentions.
This is very funny!
