Anglicanorum Coetibus meeting at Reading

Fr David Elliott, Priest-in-charge of the Church of the Most Holy Trinity in Reading, is holding a meeting at his church on Wednesday 20 January at 7.30pm to discuss the Apostolic Constitution Anglicanorum Coetibus. Further details at his blog. He also has a post with links to the key texts and will be making hard copies available for his people this Sunday.

Fr Elliott has made it clear that the meeting is open to people who are outside of his parish. I pray that the meeting goes well and that Fr Elliott and many other like him will be able to take advantage of Pope Benedict's generous provision and be received into full communion with the Holy See. Here is a photograph from the fourth Sunday of Advent at Holy Trinity, Reading:

Of course, if Holy Trinity takes advantage of AC, the Archdiocese of Birmingham would be pleased . . . they'd be able to get their Rood Screen back !

Seriously, though, it's good to see that the Holy Father's inspired generosity seems to be bearing some positive fruit.

Let us pray for Fr David, and all those who attend the meeting, that their concerns may be resolved, and that they may see their way home more clearly.

I think I'm right in saying they have Pugin's rood screen from St. Chad's cathedral in that church. Rescued from a skip. I'm sure there's a hint of irony here...

Blessed Dominic Barberi, who died at Reading, pray for them.

Dr Doyle;

to be fair, not rescued from a skip. The Cathedral had it removed, and it was languishing in a Builder's Yard. When the then PP of Holy Trinity tried to buy it, they basically said he could have it if he'd pay the costs of taking it away and erecting it elsewhere - which he did. The Church's Visitors Book contains some nice remarks from the then Archbishop who paid a visit after the work was done.

Fr PF;

it's just a pity that Reading Council allowed the demolition of the building in which B. Dominic Barberi died to allow the construction of a night club !

Dear Father,

How very kind of you to mention us on your blog, and good of you to add your encouraging comments which you left for us.

I hope that the meeting will be productive and that people are able to air views and concerns they have. Your prayers and those of your readers are much appreciated as, God willing, we move closer. Ut omnes unum sint.

Fr PF,

Thank you for reminding me of Bl. Dominic: I was baptised by a Passionist priest at Herne Bay and spent some of my chidhood in that parish. I have retained an affection for the Order, and so pray both for Bl. Dominic's aid for Fr. Elliott's meeting, and for the advancement of his cause for Sainthood.
