Last week I put up a post celebrating the Vatican's being on Twitter. It turns out that this was an imposter (Te Deum has the details) so I have deleted the post. It seems that the incident has prompted at least one person at the Holy See to reflect “It wasn’t us — but it should have been us.”
Apologies for the misinformation. I have removed the offending post.
There are at least three other "Vatican" Twitter accounts so you can take them with a pinch of salt as well.

Father:
Thanks. Now you've said this more people will take notice. I posted on it last night on the Oasis having read Fr Z. I see this morning that Fr Ho says the Pope encourages this 'Vatican Twitter. I'd alert him but always have trouble with his blog. It seems to send my PC system crazy! Hope he reads you.
Trust me - the Holy See has noticed. It didn't take long for that Twitter account to come down.
I think the person was well-intentioned as there was nothing malicious, but just a little misguided.
God can draw straight with crooked lines and I do believe that the incident will get us a real Vatican Twitter feed. LOL
