[...] despite the lack of any obvious, sensible reason why they break out in boils at the mention of the words ‘Benedict’, ‘priest’ or ‘Catholic’, the pope-hunters’ campaign has acquired a powerfully pathological, obsessive and deafeningly shrill character.

"desperate and discombobulated secularism"
Brendan O'Neill, the atheistic libertarian, attacks the ludicrous campaign to have the Pope arrested in his article "The Secular Inquisition" in Spiked, of which he is the editor. It is a fun piece in which he talks a lot of sense.

discombobulated? What a great big word Father! No one is going to do anything to our Pope. I am Irish descent, that means we can have a go, a criticism, but anyone lays a finger on our own, watch out!
Just because the enemy is spouting, doesn't mean us working class Catholics won't stick up for the Holy Father. "Where sin abounds, how much more does Grace abound" That's in the bible!
It's true!
His mother (Benedict) carried him in her womb for nine months. He is fearfully, and wonderfully made, as we all are. Keep praying your Rosary, Mary gives/shares her heart with you. Such love.
Well, bravo Mr O'Neill - a throughly sensible, intelligent article. His analysis of the motivation of Dawkins & Co is both lucid and penetrating.
Good for you Brendan O'Neill! Good for you!
Some sense, finally.
You make the whole thing absolutely sensible and intellectually honest.
God will bless you for this (if you don't even believe in Him, He believes in you!).
Thanks. Father F.
You made my day, my week, my month.
Wheew!
Funny how the social services directors under whose close scrutiny many children have suffered the most appalling cruelty do not seem to attract the same degree of public/media contumely.
