In his sermon today for the Mass of Pentecost, the Holy Father mentioned that the Cathedral Choir and the Kammerorchester of Cologne sang Haydn's Harmoniemesse. He said that "the music and the singing which accompany this our liturgy, help us also to be united in prayer"
Here is a short clip from the beginning of the Gloria:

So wonderful! I wish we had plenty of such masses!
We once had a concert in our cathedral, with some friends, Vivaldi &stuff. It felt so odd to stand in the sacristy and concentrate before a concert, and then go ahead and play -on the same spot where I normally receive Holy Communion on sundays! Anyway, would be great to have masses with choir & orchestra more often and everywhere!
This setting is superb. It's being sung at an Anglican Eucharist in Chiswick with soloists and orchestra at the end of their two week festival. How do I know??? I'm one of the extras singing with the choir. Liz.
