The Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales has issued a press release at the end of the meeting which has taken place this week.
Archbishop Vincent Nichols was elected President of the Conference unanimously and by acclamation. The post which he formerly held as chair of the department for Catholic education and formation will now be filled by Bishop Malcolm McMahon. I will be able to congratulate Bishop McMahon personally as I will be assisting him as subdeacon at Pontifical High Mass next week at the chapel of the Knights of Malta at the hospital of St John and St Elizabeth
I was also delighted to hear that Fr Marcus Stock has been appointed as General Secretary to the Bishops' Conference.

Sounds like very good news to me!
More of the press release on my blog!
Not such good news -"Bishop Kieran Conry was elected chair of the department for Evangelisation & Catechesis"
I thought POD objected to this model of appointing a "cabinet".
"Lunatics in charge of the asylum" comes to mind in relation to the Evangelisation and Catechesis post. Only good thing about it is that no one will pay any attention to the posturings of the liberal dictats. There are more sound places in the UK for good catechetical work than the bishops' conference. My only hope is that CASE is not endangered by it - that's one good outfit in the aegean stables of Eccleston Sq.
Other good news is the appointment of Fr Marcus Stcock. Maybe Ec Sq will start to improve after November.
According to "Fit for Mission", the Catholic Church has lost its way. Surely CASE is part of the problem "Ec Sq." (paymasters) and not the solution?
I don't agree - while I would not always go along with every detail of the work of CASE, it is very much on the side of the angles and does some great work.
Interestingly I have a very good friend who works for CASE..loves the Oratory..best say no more!
Fr. Tim,
With your ancestry, you're probably disappointed that CASE has sided with the Angles and not with the Celts? :-)
Good to see that we will soon have a man with sound judgement (who is also abounding in courage and conviction) as General Secretary of the Bishops Conference...
Deo Gratias; please join me in lighting a candle for Fr Marcus.
