Resurgence is a Catholic political party for the UK. As a priest it is not my place to urge you to join it - and I understand that some people take the view that we should work within existing parties. Nevertheless, I think that it is a most interesting initiative and deserves to be known about. The organisation was founded with a declaration made at Mount St Bernard Abbey in 2005, and was registered as a political party in 2007. It has its roots in the ProLife Party which de-registered as a political party in 2004 and is now known as the ProLife Alliance. You can read the aims, prospectus, constitution etc. at the Resurgence website.

We, here in Western Australia, have a political party which is not Catholic but is very christian. It is called The Christian Democratic Party and it is very pro-life. There are even a number of Catholics who have stood as candidates. I, personally, have given out their "How to Vote" cards at Polling Booths. Here we have a polling system which is not 'first past the post' but is a preferential one so that if my vote for the CDP as first choice does not come as one of the main choices then my second choice gets my vote. And so on! This also goes for the Upper House and Senators are elected on proportions of the total vote.
One would think, therefore that all Catholics would vote CDP first and then a second choice from the least worst candidates. Does that happen?!!
Not on your life!!!
Catholics even vote for the Greens who promote abortion, euthanasia and same sex marriages. But, of course, those Catholics who do so have no idea at all what the Greens really stand for. They blindly think that they are all lovely tree-huggers who simply care about the environment. Such Catholics never bother to look at what the various parties ACTUALLY promote. They never bother to read the manifestos, they never look at the fact that the leaders of the Greens in both State and Federal governments are actually practicing homosexuals and that their agendas could not be more anti-Catholic.
I despair!
We get the governments pushed by the media and the sheep follow them.
JARay
It can't have a broad enough base to get anywhere.
C.S.Lewis's essay on the idea of a specifically Christian political party has always seemed unanswerable to me.
Would we not be better to concentrate on the cross of Christ, than all this political power. Give to God what is Gods, give to Ceaser what is Ceaser's. It is turning Gods house, or religion into spin, and in the process rubishing the first commandment. Politics should be banned from the church, and all religions from politics, as the Turkish do. Both of these mixtures cause hell on earth.
Hi 'george',
In order to avoid confusion can you please change your blogger name or adjust it with a prefix or suffix of some sort. I have been commenting on the Catholic Blogs as 'George' for over three years, so of your charity it would be appreciated, as of course your comments may not reflect my thoughts on various issues and vice versa.
Thanks and God Bless.
