A new pallium

Photo from Reuters pictures at www.daylife.com

Archbishop Peter Smith, recently installed as Archbishop of Southwark (and therefore my Ordinary) received the pallium this morning from Pope Benedict XVI during the Mass celebrated at St Peter's for the feast of St Peter and St Paul. This is his second pallium, since he was formerly Archbishop of Cardiff.

Here is a photo of Archbishop Longley (right) wearing his new pallium as Archbishop of Birmingham:

Please remember Archbishops Smith and Longley in your prayers.

I wonder: do metropolitans who move to a new archdiocese get to keep their first pallium?

I'll remember Archbishop Smith and the other 37 metropolitans who received their pallia today in my prayer.

I'm sure he doesn't need reminding to wrap the old one up safely; ready to go under his head in the coffin on the far-off day of his funeral.

And Archbishop Jerome Listecki, formerly our bishop in the Diocese of La Crosse, WI (USA) in the photo.
He is a good man, he has stood up for life and for the rights of the Church here in the US, regarding the horrid sex abuse scandals.
May these new Archbishops be faithful sons of the Church; God bless them, every one!

Yes Nazareth Priest, I noted our Ab. Listecki next to Ab. Longley also. We're happy to have him here in Milwaukee.

And to make up for your loss in LaCrosse, we've sent you Bishop William Callahan our former auxiliary and beloved "Father Bill" when he was PP of St. Josaphat's Basilica for many years in Milwaukee...
