Warming up for a heresy trial
Now this could be fun. Mgr Basil Loftus, who writes a weekly column for the Catholic Times, has threatened to sue Fr Ray Blake for "suggesting that he is a heretic" if various comments are not removed from his blog within seven days. Fr Blake is standing firm by the principle of free speech for his commenters and says that he relishes the thought of a trial in a British court for heresy. (See: British Heresy Trial ~ Coming Soon!)
My guess is that the public gallery will be full.
UPDATE: it seems that Fr Mildew has been threatened as well.

I guess that if it came to court, it would be a libel case.
What fun!
An English court trying to decide what amounts to Catholic heresy.
Just hope they don't call +Vincent Nichols ot Tina Beattie as expert witnesses
I for one would be willing to contribute towards Fr. Ray's defence fund. I was actually in the same class for a time when both Mgr. Loftus and I were at St. Bede's Grammar School, Bradford.
I have received complaints from time to time, from friends, about articles which he has written in The Catholic Times. I have never read any of his articles myself.
We've all been threatened as bloggers....
Don't these old dogs ever know when to lie dead? Why does the church tolerate these people?
If it goes to trial, I'll even fly in from Japan to attend.
