Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.
Matt and Pat Archbold of Creative Minority Report respond to Fr Corapi's video where he announces that he is devoutly leaving the priesthood. Savage perhaps, but frankly, after a video like the one he posted the other day, he's going to have to roll with the punches.
Even years before I started my current journey to Catholicism, I used to watch Corapi on EWTN, preaching on the Catechism. And I know this is probably immature, but I feel betrayed by him.
Frankly, I'm not sad to see this video mocking him.
I'm a fan of the Archbold's, and having only really encountered (Fr.) Corapi because of this debacle, I'm more than happy with this injection of humour. My two favourite bits:
"...they almost never flush. And I mean, almost never."
"...my audience likewise, is apt to be broader, which probably means mad cash."
Fr Cutie, Fr Euteneuer and now Fr Corapi. Not so long ago Philadelphia suspended over 20 priests.
A while back I listened to a lovely talk on HLI by Fr Euteneuer on angels. Very inspiring.
In an article I read, Fr Euteneuer wrote to a Jesuit who outed himself saying: "If you do not clearly witness the Church's teaching about your own vocation, how can you teach others to be faithful to theirs?"
Without wishing to sound overly optimistic, I think it is true that the new generation of young priests are much more aware of the dangers to their vocation and the enormous damage that can be done by infidelity to it.
Yes, it's funny, and yes, I suppose Corapi has it coming given his penchant for self-aggrandizement on display in his video. And yet I sense a deeply troubled man. He has seemed more than a bit off in his most recent public appearances. Perhaps his demons finally caught up to him. In any event, John Corapi is likely more in need of prayer than satire.
I agree with you Fr Tim...the new priests coming into the Church now are our reward and consolation for our long suffering endurance of shenanigans by so many. Not that there aren't solid and orthodox older priest as well!! There are!!
and while we are busy thanking God for the new blood coming in to serve the Church (which we so desperately need), THEY are busy thanking God for the older and orthodox priests because they, in turn, so desperately need THEM as mentors and guides.
God bless and protect each one of you for answering his call to priesthood. It is a humbling thing for a sinner to be called to serve at the altar of the Most High.
Father - thank you for your encouraging words. I hope and pray that Fr Euteneuer, Fr Corapi and Fr Cutie and all troubled and tired priests find sublime rest in the Lord's Heart.
May Our Lady wrap her starry cape around all priests.
Prayers for you and your brother priests, Father. The Devil seems to be very active at the moment. Still, Catholics who know their history, who read the Gospel accounts of Judas' betrayal, should hardly need reminding that there are good priests and bad priests; there always have been, and there always will be. One thing, though: I think we should be wary of lionising the new generation of priests, because there will doubtless be the same old mix. This is especially true in those Western nations - such as Britain - where the requirements set out in the Congregation for Education's 2005 document (as well as the Holy Father's explicit will, as stated in Light of the World) continue to be ignored.

What is happening to the priests?
It seems as though they are being felled like trees in the Amazon.
Parishes are being amalgamated, few vocations are coming through. Who'll say the Mass and hear confessions?
Think I'll get a Mass said for the aforementioned priests and the priesthood in general.
