Details of Papal Visit to Scotland

The Scottish Catholic Media Office has a Statement from Cardinal O'Brien giving some details of the Holy Father's visit, inviting people to line Princes Street in Edinburgh for the St Ninian's Day Parade which will take place in the lead-up to the papal motorcade driving through the centre of Edinburgh. Pipe bands have been invited to take part and thousands of Saltires (the Scottish flag with the cross of St Andrew as in the picture). The intention is to create a "sea of blue" to welcome the Holy Father.

In the afternoon, the Holy Father will celebrate Mass at Bellahouston Park for an estimated 100,000 people.

The Vatican Bollettino today announces that the Holy Father received in audience this morning Archbishop Vincent Nichols, Cardinal Keith Patrick O'Brien, and Cardinal Cormac Murphy O-Connor.
