LMS Chairman Joseph Shaw reports on an Exchange with the Tablet concerning the age of those who attend old rite Masses. In the post, he has some fine photos of the Chartres Pilgrimage, including the one above.
In the course of his post, he says, as an aside:
Still, we don't read The Tablet for logic. We read it for self-mortification.I must say that I admire Joe's fortitude. I take the easy option, fasting on bread and water, wearing a hair shirt and scourging myself with chains.

Cheers!
I read it at the back of church, and then leave it for some one else to buy.....last week, I actually took it home.....I'd no money on me, I was intending to quote a line or two on a blog.....Then return it to the back of Church.
Unfortunately I think my wife has thrown it out...!!!
I think that in the finest traditions of self mortification I just keep this unintended "theft" for ever in front of my eyes......whilst the Editrix can "Feel my pain" in that she ain't getting paid for the mostly useless rag.....
Aren't you letting yourself off a bit lightly there?
I think I'd rather take the Discipline than read the Tablet
What a relief - at first glance I thought the photo was a NI Orange parade. Only on closer inspection did it become clear that the cleric with the union flag was in fact Catholic.
The hair-shirt must be about as elegant as the Tablet's writing style.
