I'm about to call for a cab to take me to the station as I'm off to Rome for a few days. I may visit the Roman curia (above). Looking through some photos of Rome, I found this one which, I think, illustrates well the cry that used to be uttered by a Franciscan during the ceremony of coronation of a new Pope:
Sic transit gloria mundi
I will remember all blog readers at the tomb of St Peter. I hope to get time and internet access to post a few things during the week.

Curious how amongst ceremonies that were abolished/abrogated/made optional were some of the most easily understood.
Not just the friar with his smoking flax crying "Sic transit gloria mundi", but also maniples and (just as everyone was obtaining access to colour television ) variations of liturgical colours within individual Holy Week and other rites, not forgetting, just as aeroplanes shrank the world for the multitude, the universal use of Latin in the liturgy.
Kind regards,

Auguri e buon viaggio P Tim !
And the post of 'Devil's advocate', too, John H H, so foolishly abolished by Pope Paul VI....another gem of traditional Catholicism thrown on to the rubbish heap one groovy afternoon in the 1960s.
