"The 13th Day" available on Amazon

Over a year ago, I mentioned the new film about Fatima called The 13th Day. The film opened in the USA in October, and today I received the good news that it is now available to order in the UK via Amazon. I ordered my copy today and look forward to seeing it.

I picked up a copy of the DVD in Rome just after Easter. It is not a bad attempt and it has some good merits. The special effects are very good and the presentation of the apparitions is quite well done. It is let down by some poor acting and it fails to capture the radiant sanctity of Blessed Jacinta and Francisco which is a great great pity.

Finally, the film makes virtually no mention of "the Immaculate Heart" when Our Blessed Mother is quite clear through the apparitions that the very purpose of Fatima is to "establish devotion to my Immaculate Heart".

The film therefore (tactically?) overlooks the whole issue of the requested consecration of Russia. But in doing this we actually lose essentially the whole purpose of Fatima- Devotion to the Immaculate Heart.

A friend visiting the Birmingham Oratory very kindly bought this for me, last week. It was £16.99, I believe.

I would suggest that you spend that hour in prayer. This film is SO bad, (despite an instant of original footage which lasts seconds). I don't know where to start with this one. Acting very wooden, Our Lady at one point does a Saturday Night fever motion to summon lightening down. Its distasteful. The directors have not understood or portrayed the message in any credible form. They have butchered the core message in a badly formatted film which could have been so inspiring. Spend your time more fruitfully, I wish I had done. If anyone would like my copy of the film free of charge I would gladly get rid of it and send it to you otherwise its for the Charity shop.

Here is my wife's assessment of the film, which we saw last week:

I really enjoyed watching the movie as it's beautifully and unusually shot. The 13th Day concentrates on the relationships between the people affected by
Our Lady's apparitions near Fatima. It is quite a slow film in terms of action, but I think its strength lies in the subtle manner in which it conveys the message of Fatima and the portrayal of the sufferings of the children and their families. I would highly recommend it to anyone aged 12+. If you would
like to find out more about the film, here is the link for the website dedicated to it: http://www.the13thday.com/.

Anyone who says the film "conveys the message of Fatima" cannot seriously know the message of Fatima which is very very clear -"devotion to my immaculate heart". I think the word "immaculate" only features once in the film!

You are much better off with the DVD produced by Fr Gruner,

or better yet the audio CD "Oh What a beautiful Lady" available from keepthefaith.org

Perhaps we should allow/trust Our Lady to speak through the film? She delivered the Saviour of the World to us without any technical media savvy. Her message will reach where it is meant to.

Dear Fr. Tim,

Did you get hold of a copy of the 13th Day already? We could arrange one for you if you want. I am a National Committee Member of the World Apostolate of Fatima, approved by the Bishops Conference in England and Wales and it is erected as a public association of the faitful by the Pontifical Council for the Laity.

I am actively promoting the message of Fatima in the whole Southwark Archdiocese. Ave Maria!
