Blackfen minor basilica news

The other day I mentioned that one of my commenters was prepared to fund the construction of a minor basilica in Blackfen if he were to win the National Lottery. My agent has replied encouragingly as follows:
Dear Fr Finigan.

Reference the National Lottery, we're on our way. I had three numbers come up, last Saturday, and won £10.

Therefore, please see, herewith, initial pencil sketch of possible new Blackfen Church.

If approved, you might have to tell the neighbours.

And move the bus-stop!!! "

It does seem churlish to quibble but I have to say that I was thinking along the lines of a Baroque Church. Therefore, while negotiations continue, I'll encourage Keith and Steve to carry on mending the leaks in the roof of our present building. (They're doing a sterling job in freezing temperatures.)

LOL... I don't see the club anywhere in the preliminary "sketch" Father. This is definitely an oversight!

On the right is the main club - a baroque palazzo with library, bookshop, and smoking room. On the left is the presbytery with attached hall to be used for catechetical events, speaker meetings, and playgroup.

Are they planning on winning multiple lotteries?

Fr Tim Finigan said...

Not necessarily. If I give Keith and Steve some drawings, I think they can knock something suitable up on the proceeds of one lottery, judging by their versatile response to all other building requests.

If you want something Baroque, Fr Tim, NLM had a good post recently about the unselected designs for the London Oratory - perhaps you could use one of those !

A model of that would do a lot of damage if it were to strke you in the face. ;¬(

Now that's a most fitting building for celebrating the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in the Old Latin Rite and moving the 'spirit' of Summorum Pontificum forward a pace or two.

Latin Lovers from the entire known universe could be accommodated in that 'Holy Mother-ship'. That's one Basilica with a Capital B and it wouldn't look out of place in Blackfen at all. Not one iota... well maybe the local council might just have to move Blackfen to one side a little bit so as to make a little more space for the car-park, smoking room and play-group.

I'm handy with a cement mixer Fr Tim so if Keith and Steve want to make a start on the footings and structural pads, just let me know, I'm up for it. I've also got a pick, sledge hammer, a shovel and two spades. Got to start somewhere!
Oh yes and a wheel-barrow :-)

Ouch!!! I certainly wouldn't want to be hit in the face with an accurate model of THAT!

Oh, I was going to crack the obvious but very pleasing joke about use of model of same as an offensive weapon, but I see others have got there first. Great minds...

I'll have to content myself with the suggestion that I hope the club will serve Camparis!
