Cogman was found guilty of two charges: one of failing to comply with a lawful order over the use of police computers and another of failing to treat a colleague with politeness and tolerance. The truth, as both the BBC and Pink News agree in their reports, is that he was sacked for suggesting that gay sex was sinful.
I would like to award the "laugh or cry" to the remark of Deputy Chief Constable Ian Learmonth, who said: "This officer's behaviour fell well below what we expect of our people."

...and there are those who doubt that the persecution has begun. If it was not so tragic, it would be comic. Does this fine police officer have any legal redress?
If I may play Devil's Advocate, I'm not sure he's been the most wise in the way he's gone about things... but then again, I am not in his shoes.
Usual disclaimer: not talking about my own work - of course I love my job! - yatta yatta yatta.
Father, he was forwarding details of a group trying to 'cure' people of homosexuality. That's hardly engaging in pastorally sensitive discussion.
Well, don't we have that good Catholic, Tony Blair, and his 'humans rights' Catholic wife et al to thank for this dreadful state of affairs. Totalitarianism is now in place in this once proud country - it's just the sort of totalitariansism history is used to.
Let's pray that PC Cogman finds another job soon and is relieved of the distress this must surely be causing him, his family, and all right-minded Christians.
Hrmmm... I still agree with Walter's position, as opposed to Monica's. And that's from me, a Catholic, and employed by a Police authority.
Mark - wait till they persecute you for having a picture of the Pope on your desktop. They'll make sorts of excuses like, "He encourages homophobia" or "He used to be a Nazi".
The liberal lift jumped on this man, to further their anti-Catholic cause. England is now returning to the dark reformation era, except it will now be the Protestants' turn, as well as the Catholics', to feel the brunt.
Mark,
If PC Cogman did not send emails and kept silent about his beliefs, would he still have been disciplined for not wearing the ribbon?
Just curious.
Thanks,

Probably not. I must note that this is purely my own speculation, but I believe the use of the email system to be at the root of it.
Must catch up with this one since my husband's a police Officer
