Novena of Masses for the unborn

Patrick Benedict, a parishioner at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church (Diocese of Memphis in Tennessee) and the president of the Saint Michael the Archangel Organization, is organising a Novena of Masses for unborn babies from 13-21 January. Here is the full text of his notice:
MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE (January 6th, 2009) - A total of more than 700 Masses has been scheduled as part of the 10,000 MASSES FOR UNBORN BABIES Novena(January 13th - January 21st, 2009). The Saint Michael the Archangel Organization(the coordinator of this Novena) will continue to gather information, but as of now:

* At least 5 bishops and one cardinal will be offering the Holy Sacrifice
of the Mass for the unborn babies;

* Masses will be offered in Australia, Canada, Germany, India, Italy,
New Zealand, Philippines, Poland, Singapore, Trinidad, Uganda,
and the United States;

* The ordinary form of the Mass and the extraordinary form of the
Mass will be offered;

* Masses will be offered in more than 75 dioceses and archdioceses;

* Masses will be offered at cathedrals, parish churches, monasteries,
chapels, etc.

" These Masses are for the protection of unborn human persons. They are truly gifts for unborn babies," said Patrick Benedict, a parishioner at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church(Diocese of Memphis in Tennessee) and the president of the Saint Michael the Archangel Organization. " I am very thankful for each person who has expressed his/her love for the unborn babies by having one or more Masses offered."

Persons who want to give unborn babies the gift of the Mass and take part in the 10,000 MASSES FOR UNBORN BABIES Novena may still do so. There are various ways this may be done, including contacting a retired priest and/or contacting a religious order. Then, a person may simply ask that one or more Masses be offered on any day from January 13th through January 21st, 2009 for the following intention: For the protection of unborn human persons.

After scheduling the Mass(or Masses), a person will want to contact the Saint Michael the Archangel Organization with that information so it may be included with the other Masses that are scheduled and posted on the homepage of the Organization's website.

I will be taking part in this Novena. I find that the 10.30am Mass on Sunday 18 January is currently free and so I will offer that Mass for the unborn. (The Mass is sung according to the usus antiquior.)

Although at Blackfen, I receive more Mass intentions than I can handle, this is not the case in many smaller parishes. You might want to check with your parish priest if he has a day without an intention from 13-21 January. To help him out, put your offering in an envelope and mark clearly on the outside "Mass intention for unborn babies".
