Farewell party in Chelsea

Bill, a friend of Fr Michael Lang, kindly hosted a drinks party to say farewell to Father who is off to Rome soon where he has been appointed to the Pontifical Council for the Cultural Heritage of the Church. Fr Lang remains part of the community at the London Oratory. He will be sadly missed but together with all his friends, I am delighted that his scholarly ability is to be put to use in the Vatican.

London was quite warm this evening and it was pleasant to take a trip over to Chelsea for such a relaxed and friendly gathering. Bill was the perfect host. He told me that he had left New York many years ago. He has lost nothing of that American generosity and hospitality that I feel puts us a little to shame in England.
