"To do" list for Rome

From Monday to Friday this week, I will be in the Eternal City with Fr Charles Briggs for a little break. here is a list of things that I would like to do this week:
  • Buy a Ferraiuolo at Barbiconi's
  • Eat a Roman Pizza Capricciosa
  • Buy a green Roman Low Mass set at Gammarelli's
  • Say Mass in the usus antiquior at St Peter's (about 7.30am Tuesday if you want to come)
  • Visit the Church of Santissima Trinita dei Pellegrini
  • Drink a small glass of Nardini Grappa
  • Receive the blessing of the Holy Father at the General Audience
We will be around for a bloggers' meeting. Details of that in a separate post.

Hmmmmn. What, do you think, are my chances of getting a day off school for the purposes of attending a bloggers' meeting???

Have a wonderful trip, and raise a glass to the Holy Father for me!

How about tap dancing down the Scala Regia[sp!] -- you know the one.

[The first time I went to the Sistine chapel by myself, I was 17 and took a "back exit" just to see where it went. That little door at the back of the chapel in the corner that looks quite non-descript.] I was stunned to find myself at the top of that magnificent staircase and must have stayed there in splendid isolation marveling at the thing. Somehow with all the security in place now, I'd be surprised if it was an option. At the time I did it the Swiss Guard at the bottom didn't seem overly concerned.]

Fr:

Have a wonderful time. I watch the Audience on kto and will look out for you.

In the meantime on the subject of bloggers, there's something which should amuse you on 'Thoughts from an Oasis in French Catholicism'
You figure in a sketch on there, set in the Papal study about whether he will blog or not.

I am usually more serious than this. But couldn't resist.

Thanks as usual for all your posts.

In Christo pro Papa

Jane - thanks for that link. Very amusing. If only!

All - I will remember you in my prayers at the tomb of St Peter.

umm...whatever happened to 'Live Simply?' LOL

Gammarelli's - now you're talking! What a shop! I remember the first time I went inside and just stood looking in awe of all the rolls of beautiful material...

Have a nice trip - don't forget to visit Basilica di San Paolo fuori le Mura - if you have time that is! :)

I suspect you've done your homework, but in case you're not aware, SS Trinita is only open from around 4.30pm till after 6.30 Mass. When I was there for Mass a couple of weeks ago, priests were saying Mass on the side altars as well as the scheduled Mass at the High Altar - so you might get to say Mass there, too.

In any event, have a great break and thanks for your promise of prayers for your readers.

Many thanks, Monica. I think we'll get time to call over there this afternoon. I hope to say Mass there.

If you don't have a pizzeria to which you are committed, may I recommend Pizzeria del Paino, via del Parione (runs between via Governo Vecchio and Santa Maria della Pace). If the weather's nice it's a great place for lunch outside!
