Anti -abortion petition

Some of the petitions using the e-petitions website seem to me to be poorly worded. However here is one that has no ambiguity:
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Revoke the 1967 Abortion Act
The explanatory text says simply:
We the undersigned petition that the 1967 Abortion Act be revoked. The act of abortion destroys the lives of thousands of women every day, not to mention the innocent children, and is reprehensible in all circumstances.
There are 548 signatures at the time of posting. Do add your name if you are eligible (you must be a British Citizen or resident to sign the petition.

Sign the petition here

C'mon now! Everyone can sign this.

Thanks for the link Fr Tim.

Done - it was completely painless.

More than I can say for those innocent and defenceless babies being murdered in their mother's wombs.

Our Lady of Guadaloupe - Pray for us.

So many women are damaged by abortion, and I know of some who cannot forgive themselves and often think about the child they may have had. I pray this petition is successful.
For those who do not believe abortion is murder I recommend a little booklet titled 'Mama why did you kill us'? published by TAN Rockford Illinois.

Please pray for women suffering post abortion trauma. Just one Hail Mary.

The list of signatories is practically a who's who of the pro-life movement - I can't believe how many names I recognised from amongst just the first 500! If I were a conspiracy theorist, I could imagine that Downing Street might quite like having the names and addresses of all those people. Expect to be emailed a patronising and irrelevant reply in about a fortnight's time; I'm beginning to think that this system is merely a mechanism to get New Labour spin into people's inboxes than any genuine exercise in democracy. Remember that NHS petition that was discovered dumped in a dustbin outside John Reid's office hours after it had been handed to him in person? At least all they have to do now is hit the delete button...

Since I'm from New York and can't sign the petition -- a quick question:

Suppose the miracle happens and Parliament repeals the 1967 Abortion Act. What happens then? Does abortion become illegal again? Or, is there no law on the question one way or another?

I would be glad to be corrected by someone more knowledgeable than I, but I would feel happier if, instead of merely repealing the Act, it was replaced with positive language, such as, "All abortions shall be considered a felony in Her Majesty's Realms." Or words to that effect.

Patrick, strange as it may sound, abortion is illegal in England. The Abortion Act 1967 provides for certain exceptions when it may be allowed. Although we have in practice virtually got abortion on demand, the pro-abortion campaigners are keen to remove any restrictions and make abortion a human right.
