As I was such a glorious day, I re-took one of my favourite views of the basilicas.

I also tried to reproduce a shot of the hemicycle that I have seen on a postcard. This is the best I could do, together with some slightly wacky colour balancing:

Here is one of the chapels inside. To be frank, I think that the average B&Q warehouse is more attractive.

I drafted that post earlier. This afternoon, in the space of less than half an hour, the weather suddenly changed and there was a violent hailstorm for about five minutes. Unfortunately, it washed out the Blessed Sacrament procession and when it dried up a litle, everyone headed straight to the underground basilica. I'll see if I can get some photos tomorrow.

Good Grief, Father! What the heck is that hideous concrete warehouse you've pictured here?! Are we expected to think that's a church?
Notice Father, how in this modern building, like many other modern church buildings, the emphasis and 'center' is on the lectern 'Liturgy of the Word' rather than the Altar of Sacrifice which is blatantly to the side when one looks down the middle of the church.
Quite sad :(
Enjoy Lourdes Father, please pray for my vocation.
With assurances of my prayers.
Is that a Catholic church in the last photo father? It looks like they're moving out of the place?
Whenever I'm in Lourdes I always make sure to pray in the main basilica and no where else.
Not very pleasing to the eyes but I guess at least the seating is in the direction of the Altar, but where is the Tabernacle?
I'm just loving every minute of your pilgrimage. As a result I am resolved to visit Lourdes again not having been since 1968! Keep on bloging Father. God bless you and thanks. JCR
That has got to be the ugliest chapel I have ever seen.
That picture of the inside of that church looks like a cheap small-town hockey rink in Canada! Hoy.
I've been in that horror - to compare it to a B&Q is to do them a disservice.
There IS actually a Tabernacle but not so's you'd notice it which, God forgive me for uncharitable thoughts, may even have been the intention. It's at the side wall, over to the right of the altar as you look at it and not even facing out into the body of the building. In the picture you can see there's actually a row of benches in front of it, so those sitting there have their backs to it.
Sad and bad.
