In February, I reproted that Stanbrook Abbey was up for sale. A possible sale has recently fallen through and there is a danger that the Abbey will be vandalised and generally fall into disrepair after the sisters move out next March. To buy this, you are going to need in the region of £6 million. If you have this kind of money spare, may I encourage you to spend it in this good cause. I'm sure there would be a queue of good traditional communities wanting to move in if you were to "build up treasure in heaven" by such a generous benefaction.

The Mormons might be interested. We just heard that Rome is to get a new temple, a Mormon temple. Mormon temples are typically huge white buildings with tall steeples that are topped with a trumpet-blowing golden statue of the angel Moroni.
One needs a permit to enter a Mormon Temple and this is only given to Mormons who are in good standing.
How very sad to think this place might not be put to good use. Prayers that they find a good buyer and especially that it will not be destroyed by hoodlums.
If some "large" benefactors could be found along with "ordinary" folk (Salt of the Earth, like ;)), could the amount be raised in that way?
I guess some extra funds would be needed for upkeep, at least at the beginning - many orders, especially the ones who would really LOVE Stanbrook, don't have the cash needed to keep that building going.
Perhaps if an order were approached and were "conditionally" willing to take over the building (with the Bishop's - Archbishop's? - permission of course), it might make raising the money needed for the sale a little easier.
Anyone got contacts with Mother Angelica's PCPAs in Alabama in the USA? Or perhaps the Community of St. John, or the Blue Sisters, or maybe (pushing the boat out a bit in terms of likelihood) a congregation like the FSSP or ICKSP? Although I'm not sure how the monastery, built as it is for an enclosed community, would do for one with an outside apostolate.
People, please dig in your hearts and pockets!!
If only I had a large enough bank account. I intend to pray that such a valuble example of Catholic heritage might be preserved and kept in use.
I encourage all to join in somehow and pray for this same intention.

Forward Father's post to any wealthy people you know. They may not want to do this or even have the means to do so (economically uncertain times, what), but they may know someone who would leap on just such an opportunity. For that matter, forward it to any who are well-connected. God moves in strange and mysterious ways, and sometimes He uses dolts like us to do so.
