In response to the Sexual Orientation Regulations, and hoping to continue to benefit from the generosity of the Catholic faithful, the Society is now to change its name to the "Cabrini Children's Society" (same initials, geddit!) As Philip comments:
The Catholic Faithful need to know that they’ve just lost £10 million (the society's assets), and been sold down the river of political expediency as it is now technically outside Church jurisdiction. Is there not something in canon law about alienating property?
Maggie Clitherow has some good comment on this issue from her own experience (Don't Know What I'm Doing: So-Called Catholic Adoption Agencies
I am very pleased to hear that one of the Auxiliary Bishops in Southwark, Bishop John Hine has resigned from the board of the society. This action is very much to be commended.

Oh how wet! Did the recusants give in so easily? The chances of a gay couple approaching the society are not high. If they did, and were turned down, do we really think a court would take action. If it did, so what? That MIGHT be the time to give in. The Catholic church does not deserve to survive if it is so gutless. Who wants to convert to such an organisation. Bad law should not be obeyed. It is not the resignation of the bishop from the society which should be applauded but, rather, we should demand the resignation of the Archbishop and his assistant for having no baqckbone in letting th society secede.
A little digging around in Plymouth has revealed the following: the Plymouth Childrens' Society outsourced its adoption work some years ago in a joint venture with the Anglicans. The new charity is called 'Families for Children' and is Sexual Orientation Regulations compliant. The Charities Commission website shows that in 2006, Plymouth Diocesan Childrens' Society made a grant to Families for Children of £2000, (there are no more up-to date figures). The Right Reverend Bishop Budd (Plymouth) is listed as a President of Families for Children, along with the Anglican Bishop of Exeter, Michael Langrish. One of the Objects of Families for Children is that it shall ' operate in accordance with the Christian principles as espoused by....the Roman Catholic Diocese of Plymouth'.
Looks as if I shall have to forego my usual donation to what I thought was a bona fide cause until Plymouth clarifies what is going on.
